Unfortunately, you need the Wii Remote.
I also agree with you, it would be convenient if you could navigate the Wii menu with a gamecube controller or something but, sadly, it’s impossible.
On the Nintendo DS you have the option of going straight to the game whenever your DS turns on (kind of like past consoles like the GC and N64). Unfortunately, this option is not yet available on the Wii, and I can’t guarantee it will ever be. I guess the only thing we can do is keep our fingers crossed…
    Sorry!

If its a challenge not a real question then… Use a guitar hero guitar. The analog stick can control the cursor as long as you haven’t pointer at the screen yet.

I’m sorry to report that you’ll need a Wiimote to start any game or channel on the Wii… including Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Once you get the game started, THEN you can use a Gamecube controller to access the in-game menus… BUT NOT BEFORE!
You’ll either have to pick up another Wiimote (or a cheap knock-off) to do this.
I know it’s not the answer that you want to hear, but it’s the truth that you’ll have to deal with.

nope. you kinda came up with a really good solution, but i don’t think it will ever work. yea it sucks and i wish i could to that too. they assume that you’ll go back to the wii menu and stuff.
