Is Christmas a Time to Be Selfish?

In her aritlce, Livin for Christmas the author L shares her love of Christmas with us.  However, interestingly, her love of Christmas starts with her first.

She claims that, after buying Christmas gifts for herself, she can then free herself up to think about other people.

This is an interesting perspective.  Shouldn’t it be the other way around?  I thought Christmas was about self-less-ness, not about putting me first.

She mentions how tough the economy is and how tough the economy was this year and that it is very important for her to do things for herself first…that this gives her the freedom to be truly selfless.

An interesting perspective and I suppose it is ok.  But is it truly in the Holiday Spirit.  For me, I will find great gifts at a Christmas Store Online for my family first.  Then, if there is any money leftover, I will see what may be good for me.

To me, the joy of the Holiday season is in the giving, not in the giving to me.  I wonder what others think:  Is Christmas a Time to Be Selfish?
