My kitten has a cold. We brought him to the vet and he’s on antibiotics. I’m just curious how we can clear up the dried snot around his nose. I’ve tried to use a damp rag and it doesn’t really work. I don’t want to hurt him either.

put the kitty in the bathroom while you take a shower, then use a warm wetted q tip and gently massage it off
A warm damp cloth is really the best option if you are determined to clean it for your kitten. But as long as it is not blocking air from his nostrils, it is fine to leave it there. If however if affects his breathing, a brief moment of discomfort in order to have the ability to breathe again, is better than being to worried about hurting him. It is likely that he will take care of it in his own time, and if he is still too young to do that, then I would bet he is still with his mother and she’ll take care of it.
In regards to the two answers below,
a cotton ball may not be strong enough to remove the mucus, it is worth a try, but you may end up having to pull pieces of it out of his nostrils.
Don’t put him in the bathroom while you shower, the steam will not help his cold, and the changes in temperature may cause his cold to flare up even worse.
use some warm water and a cotton ball
