what you need to do is buy a router and
then connect it up (make sure
    you know your password)
then go on the wii and set it up following
    the steps
    hope it helps < (^^)>

Out of the box, you need a wireless connection. The Wii doesn’t have an ethernet plug that you can use to connect to a modem or router.
If you want to use a wired connection, you have to get the LAN adapter.
If you want a wireless connection using your computer, you can get the USB Wi-Fi adapter.
