A Weekend Copying DVDs

This weekend my goal was to backup my DVD collection.  Why did I want to do this?  Well, frankly, when you have a few hundred DVDs all at prices for of about $15-$20, you have a significant investment there.

Plus, I found my kids playing frisbee with several of the DVDs the other day and they were just ruined.

So, I thought, arrrghhhhh, I need to learn how to copy a DVD so that I do not lose the entire investment that I have made in my movie collection.

So, I copied the first one, the second one, and then I thought…wait, I am just going to end up with another 300 DVDs and will basically have the same problem…a bunch of DVDs laying around that can get scratched.

So, I read an article called Putting DVDs on Your Hard Drive which tells you how to do just that, transfer DVDs to your hard drive

The process as outlined on the copy DVD to hard drive page is extremely simple and much quicker than actually copying DVDs from one DVD to another.  And best of all, the software is available for free.

All that you need are a copy encyrption program and this other program called Handbrake and you are good to go.

You can then copy DVDs to your hard drive and backup your DVDs at the same time.  Great solution!
